Lyndon woman faces identity theft charges

LYNDON — Authorities are charging a woman with identity theft after she allegedly used her brother’s social security number for nearly a decade without his consent.

Troopers from the St. Johnsbury Barracks were alerted on April 7 at approximately 8:09 a.m. to complaints of fraud and identity theft involving Brenda Heywood of Lyndon.

The investigation revealed that Brenda Heywood, 72, had unlawfully used the social security number of her brother, Robert Heywood, 68, also of Lyndon.

She allegedly conducted credit checks and obtained other private financial reports using his identity.

Troopers contacted Brenda Heywood at her residence later that day.

She was cited to appear in Caledonia County Superior Court — Criminal Division on May 12 at 8:30 a.m. to address the charge.
