DERBY — North Country Union Junior High School authorities and law enforcement responded to a weapons-related incident Monday after a parent reported seeing a student with a possible weapon at a bus stop.
Superintendent Elaine Collins informed parents shortly before 1 p.m. that the situation had been investigated and there was no ongoing threat to students or staff.
“When the administration learned of the potentially dangerous situation, law enforcement was notified, and an investigation was launched,” Collins said in an email to the school community.
The incident is being handled through both law enforcement and the North Country Supervisory Union’s disciplinary procedures. School officials provided limited details to protect student confidentiality.
The superintendent thanked the parent who reported the situation and acknowledged staff and law enforcement for their response, emphasizing the importance of speaking up when concerns arise.
