BRATTLEBORO — A 36-year-old local man was arrested Sunday after allegedly breaking into a downtown comic book store and stealing a cash register.

Michael J. Smith of Brattleboro was charged with burglary, petit larceny and unlawful mischief in connection with the incident at Ray Gun Comics at 125 Main Street.

Police responded to the store at approximately 6:30 a.m. Sunday after receiving a report of a break-in.

Officers discovered the glass front door had been shattered and a cash register was missing from the business.

Surveillance footage and information from nearby businesses helped police identify Smith as a suspect.

Smith was located and arrested later Sunday and held on $200 bail.

He is scheduled to appear in Windham County Superior Court on March 10.
