SALEM — Salem detectives arrested a 20-year-old Massachusetts man Tuesday after an undercover operation connected him to a suspected fatal overdose.
Cesar Kelvin Carvajal Lara of Lawrence was charged with sale of fentanyl over 5 grams, a special felony, after detectives recovered 10 grams of suspected fentanyl.
The arrest followed an investigation into a suspected overdose death that occurred March 1 at a Salem residence.
Detectives posed as the deceased victim and arranged for the suspected dealer to drive to Salem to sell drugs.
Carvajal Lara was arrested near the overdose victim’s residence and is being held without bail.
He is scheduled to be arraigned today in Salem District Court and is also being held on an Immigration and Customs Enforcement detainer.
Police said the investigation remains active and additional charges are possible.
