Two arrested in connection to trafficking of fentanyl and cocaine in Portsmouth

PORTSMOUTH — Two people were arrested after a traffic stop on Interstate 95 led to the discovery of alleged fentanyl, cocaine, and an altered firearm hidden inside a vehicle.

On Monday, Feb. 10, state troopers conducted a traffic stop for speed on I-95 in Portsmouth.

During the roadside investigation, a search was conducted of the vehicle and approximately 350 grams of fentanyl, approximately 75 grams of cocaine, and a firearm with an altered serial number were located.

As a result of the investigation, troopers assigned to the New Hampshire State Police Narcotics Investigations Unit arrested Frandy Arias Zapata, 23, and Eduardo Garcia, 24, both of Methuen, Massachusetts, on charges of possession of a narcotic drug with intent to distribute.

Additional charges may be forthcoming.

Zapata and Garcia were released on personal recognizance bail pending an arraignment scheduled for Monday, March 24, in Portsmouth District Court.
