VERNON — A Vernon man was issued a citation for negligent operation of a vehicle and leaving the scene of an accident after allegedly striking a juvenile who had just disembarked from a school bus on Jan. 24.
Vermont State Police reported the incident occurred around 4:05 p.m. on Vermont Route 142.
A white Hyundai Accent, model year between 2006 and 2010 with a black rear bumper and bearing Vermont plates, was identified as the vehicle that hit the child and failed to stop.
Through their investigation, authorities determined that 61-year-old David W.
Knapp was the driver responsible for the collision.
Following the incident, Knapp was located, cited for negligent operation (Title 23 VSA 1091) and leaving the scene of an accident (Title 23 VSA 1128), and subsequently released.
The juvenile involved sustained minor injuries, received prompt medical care, and was released.
Knapp is scheduled to appear at the Vermont Superior Court – Windham Criminal Division on Feb. 18 at 8:30 a.m.
