Brattleboro man arrested in string of vehicle thefts

BRATTLEBORO — A 33-year-old Burlington man was arrested in connection with a series of thefts from motor vehicles in Brattleboro, police said Tuesday.

Yesi Garelnabi was taken into custody after a series of events that began on Dec. 28, when officers attempted to approach him on South Main Street but he evaded them.

The following day, at about 10:45 a.m., police located Garelnabi on Canal Street and questioned him regarding the recent thefts.

Authorities discovered Garelnabi had an active arrest warrant from Chittenden County Court.

During processing at Brattleboro Police Department, he was found with two stolen debit cards from the previous night.

Garelnabi was charged with receiving stolen property and additional charges from prior incidents.

On Dec. 30, at approximately 9:03 p.m., officers responded to a new theft from a vehicle on Ledgewood Heights.

Garelnabi was again identified as the suspect, leading to his arrest for petit larceny and unlawful trespass.

Garelnabi was held on $200 bail and was scheduled for a court appearance in Windham County Superior Court on Dec. 31.

He is also cited to appear in court on Feb. 4, 2025, at 8:30 a.m. for previous charges.
