PUTNAM — A Norwich man turned himself in to police Monday on charges of attempted extortion, authorities said.
Paul A. Riemann, 61, surrendered at the Putnam Police Department at 6:15 p.m. after being notified of an arrest warrant issued by the Windham County State’s Attorney’s Office.
The arrest stems from a criminal complaint filed in September.
Investigators allege Riemann attempted to extort payment from a victim he knew through a professional association to prevent exposure of a news story.
Riemann was charged with criminal attempt at first-degree larceny by extortion.
He posted a $50,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Danielson Superior Court on Jan. 8.
Police provided no further details about the case.
All accused are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
