CRAFTSBURY — Craftsbury Saplings has received a $50,000 grant to plan a new childcare facility that would nearly triple its capacity to serve local families.

The nonprofit community childcare center was among the first recipients of First Children’s Finance Vermont’s Planning Grant Project, which aims to expand childcare capacity across the state.

Plans call for a 7,100-square-foot building that would increase capacity from 19 to 54 children. The center currently operates at capacity with a waitlist.

The planning grants provide in-kind professional services, childcare business assistance, and financial stipends to support capital construction projects for new or expanded childcare operations.
