Mansfield fire engine struck by hit-and-run tractor-trailer on highway

MANSFIELD — A Mansfield Fire Department engine was struck by a tractor-trailer in a hit-and-run incident early Sunday morning on Interstate 495 Southbound near Norton.

According to the department’s press release, Engine 33 was attending to a motor vehicle accident just before exit 27 at around 4:30 a.m. when the collision occurred.

The fire engine was parked and unmanned at the time, and no injuries were reported from the secondary crash.

The fire engine sustained considerable damage to the front passenger side.

The tractor-trailer did not stop after striking the emergency vehicle.

Authorities are currently seeking a tractor-trailer with a white trailer, which is expected to have significant damage to the front driver’s side of the tractor portion.

The Mansfield Fire Department has urged anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has information regarding the tractor-trailer to contact the Foxboro State Police Barracks at 508-543-8550.

Investigations are ongoing, and the fire department is working with state police to locate the driver responsible for the damage.
