Man arrested after speeding, running from police in Dummerston

DUMMERSTON — A 34-year-old man from Putney was arrested on multiple charges following an incident in Dummerston on Friday.

Police say they observed a vehicle traveling north on Vermont Route 5 in excess of 83 miles-per-hour in a 50 miles-per-hour zone at around 4:30 p.m.

The deputy attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver proceeded to travel north at a high rate of speed before turning into a Sunoco gas station parking lot.

After further investigation, the driver, identified as Bryan Wainwright, was found to be operating under the influence of alcohol.

After arrest and processing, he was issued a criminal citation to appear in court at a later date.

He is being charged with DUI, excessive speed, negligent operation, attempt to elude, and having an arrest warrant.

He was transported to Southern State Correctional Facility regarding an arrest warrant.
